Hello!
After taking a break, we are back and ready to provide you with the most up to date and culturally relevant health, beauty and lifestyle information.
We have so much in store for you - from the next issue of our magazine, to launching our podcast, to hosting our first Black health, beauty and lifestyle event in Spring 2026 featuring panels and masterclasses from experts as well as the opportunity to buy from black owned
health, beauty and lifestyle brands.
But first, for the new members of our community (and a refresher for our old ones), allow us to reintroduce ourselves.

The Health Palette is a health, beauty and lifestyle media platform, targeted at a Black audience. The Health Palette was born four years ago after hearing time and time again about the poor health statistics and health inequalities that affect Black people.
For example, did you know that in 2019 Black women in the UK were not two, not three, not four but five times more likely to die in pregnancy and the period after compared to white women? Worse, this number had been increasing over the previous years yet nothing had been done to change these statistics.
George Floyd, and the many other events that happened in 2020 that highlighted the significant disparities Black people face, were more reasons why we couldn’t just sit back and watch.

Our founder, who is also a medical doctor, spent 2020 working on the COVID-19 wards. One day after work, she went to a supermarket in London (UK). She looked at the magazine aisle and noticed something missing. She looked again, looked from side to side, squinted, cleaned her glasses and then took another look. Something was missing - there was no person of colour on any magazine cover (pictured below).

She went home and researched the lack of people of colour on popular magazine covers as well as the magazine industry. She found that in 2017, over 90% of popular magazine covers did not feature any person of colour, but just a few years earlier Italian Vogue’s first “Black issue” with Edward Enninful as part of the team, was so popular that an extra 60,000 copies were printed. Clearly a market for Black and people of colour to feature on magazine covers existed.
As a doctor herself, she was painfully aware of the poor health statistics that affect Black people. Four to five times more likely to die in pregnancy, four times more likely to be
sectioned under the mental health act, twice as likely to receive a late stage diagnosis of breast cancer, twice as likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer and so the list continues.
Then it clicked, why not combine health and media to create a Black health magazine and media platform? In a world where Black people are consistently underrepresented in the media yet over represented in negative health statistics. Why not bring health and media together to create a space that redefines how Black health, beauty, and lifestyle are represented?
And so, The Health Palette was born.
As well as redefining how Black health, beauty and lifestyle are represented, we also know that more and more people are not only making their health and wellness a priority, but are also looking for factual and accurate information.
At The Health Palette, we aim to bring expert-led and trustworthy advice from a panel of Black health, beauty, and lifestyle professionals — all in one accessible media platform.

We can’t wait to share everything we have in store with you - from our magazine, to our podcast and our events.
In the meantime, be sure to read our previous magazine issues. Whilst they are previous issues, they contain relevant information and cover topics such as the Black maternity experience in the UK, fibroids and dental tips.
